Designers are visual people, but its all too common that they fail to see at all. A mentor of mine once told me that I had to stop walking so quickly (I’m originally from the east coast where people just walk…faster). When I slowed down, and he caught up, he told me that if I walked so quickly all the time I’d never make a great designer. The point was that there are so many opportunities for design right in front of us, at every moment, if we just take the time to slow down and recognize this. For this, I love Jane Fulton Suri’s book ‘Thoughtless Acts’. Theres a good summary here on Businessweek.
